Kendall County Judge Shane Stolarczyk on March 18 signed a declaration of local disaster for the county, due to increased risks of wildfires.

The details

The order effectively bans outdoor burning, hot works and the sale and use of all fireworks. For residents, violations of this declaration could result in fines up to $500.

The declaration lasts seven days before the need to be brought before the Commissioner’s Court for the consideration of an extension.

Kendall County has been under a burn ban since Jan. 6 as a result of drought conditions.

According to information from the Keetch-Byram Drought Index, or KBDI, Kendall County was at 524 as of March 21.

The KBDI measures soil dryness and fire risk on a scale of 0-800, with higher numbers indicating increased fire potential, according to the Texas Weather Connection.

Since the declaration was signed on March 18, the Commissioner’s Court has an agenda item focused around the ongoing burn ban scheduled for the March 25 meeting.
