Round Rock to celebrate Yonders Point grand opening May 21

Round Rock residents will now be able to enjoy one of the newest features at Old Settlers Park.

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department and city leaders will celebrate the grand opening of Yonders Point on May 21 at 6 p.m. at Old Settlers Park, 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock. In addition to a ribbon cutting with Mayor Craig Morgan and City Council members, residents will be able to enjoy a wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres from Craft and Racked Wine Bar, live music from the Jazz Daddies and a showing of “Jumanji: The Next Level.”

The $750,000 Yonders Point project is one of many improvements to the city’s parks, which includes a basketball court, soccer fields and hiking trails. The overlook boasts pergolas with swings, terraced seating, a hammock area and lounges.

Roger Heaney, communications coordinator for the parks department, said Yonders Point offers an opportunity to relax in a park that is otherwise very active.

“Old Settlers Park is home to almost every sport known to man and other than the playgrounds, Yonders Point just provides a place for families to go and relax,” Heaney said. “It's an alternative to the active lifestyle that Old Settlers Park offers, because we have hike-and-bike trails there, sports [and a] playground. This is meant for an area where people and families can go swing on the swings, bring a blanket.”
