1. North Texas Bookstore Crawl returns for second year featuring 33 locations
The Second Annual North Texas Bookstore Crawl runs throughout August and features 33 independently owned bookstores. This year’s event runs Aug. 1-31 and includes bookstores from Grapevine, Plano, McKinney, Denton and Fort Worth. Throughout August, individuals can pick up a passport from participating bookstores or download one online and collect stamps across North Texas.

2. Costco sets opening date for upcoming location in Celina
Costco’s newest location will open in Celina on Aug. 26, according to the Celina Chamber of Commerce’s social media. The store coming soon to the corner of Preston Road and Ownsby Parkway will feature a 158,000-square-foot warehouse and a fueling station, according to previous reporting.

3. 39-acre development moves forward after Prosper residents weigh in
A 39.2-acre commercial and light industrial development planned for the northeast corner of University Drive and Lovers Lane is making headway in Prosper. The rezoning was delayed after several residents of the Willow Ridge neighborhood directly north of the planned development spoke in opposition to the project at a July 21 meeting.

4. Shady’s Burgers & Brewhaha offers burgers, more in Frisco
Shady’s Burgers & Brewhaha, a casual American burger restaurant and patio bar, has opened a new location in Frisco. The newest Shady’s location will serve visitors directly on the waterfront of Hidden Cove Marina on the east side of Lewisville Lake.

5. Arches installed over Richardson’s US 75 DART bridge, lighting additions underway
Two steel arches were installed over US 75 in Richardson as part of Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Silver Line bridge. The final arch was completed July 27, but lighting installation will be ongoing over the next two months, according to a news release from the city. The arches span up to 80 feet over US 75 alongside the Silver Line bridge, located just south of President George Bush Turnpike.

6. Denton ISD gives out more than 500 Gold Cards in first 2 days
Denton ISD officially launched its Gold Card Program on Aug. 3, and over the course of two days, the district provided more than 500 cards to members of the district’s community, according to a DISD news release. The program allows DISD residents and student family members who are 60 and older free general admission to home school events, according to previous reporting.
