Denton ISD officially launched its Gold Card Program on Aug. 3, and over the course of two days, the district provided more than 500 cards to members of the district’s community, according to a DISD news release.

The program allows DISD residents and student family members who are 60 and older free general admission to home school events, according to previous reporting.
"The response has been incredible," DISD Superintendent Susannah O'Bara said. "To see more than 500 community members walk through our doors in the first two days tells us something we've always known. Our community cares deeply about our students and wants to be part of their journey. We are grateful for their support and can't wait to welcome them into the stands and at our performances this fall."
There is no cost to obtain the card, and eligible events include athletic regular-season home games and matches, along with fine arts performances at DISD facilities, according to previous reporting.
"People have come in excited, asking about football schedules and concert dates. They're ready to show up for our kids," said Nick Petito, DISD’s chief communications and marketing officer. "That kind of energy is exactly why we created this program. When students look into the crowd and see their community cheering them on, it makes a difference."
How it works
Those trying to obtain a Gold Card must show a valid photo ID with their name, date of birth and home address at the time of pickup. The card must be shown at school events for free admission, and only one card can be used per person, according to previous reporting.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Live within DISD boundaries
- Have a family member enrolled in DISD, regardless of where you live
- Be 60 or older
Playoff games, away games, tournaments, sold out events and events off campus are not included in the Gold Card membership.

Gold Cards are still available for eligible community members Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Stephens Building within DISD's central offices at 1307 N. Locust St. in Denton.
