Plano ISD’s tax rate is set to decrease heading into fiscal year 2026-27.
The gist
The proposed property tax rate of $1.0328 per $100 of appraised value would be a decrease of around 0.65% from fiscal year 2025-26.
Homeowners may still see an increase in taxes paid due to an estimated increase in appraised home value, PISD Chief Financial Officer Courtney Reeves said at a May 19 board of trustees meeting.
The average residence is expected to pay $4,827 in property taxes to the district in FY 2026-27, an increase from $4,670 in FY 2025-26.
“The average market value of a home is expected to increase from $612,000 to $618,000,” Reeves said. “While the district’s tax rate is decreasing slightly, the increase in the taxable value does result in a modest increase for the average homeowner.”
The background
PISD’s property tax rate has decreased in every fiscal year since 2018-19, when it sat at $1.439 per $100 of appraised value.
Reeves said the reduction is “mostly driven by state-mandated tax rate reduction.”
The district is also expecting to send more property tax revenue back to the state due to recapture, a program that reallocates funds from school districts deemed property rich to those deemed property poor.
What’s next
PISD’s board is set to adopt next year’s budget July 25. The tax rate will be officially adopted Aug. 18.
