Upcoming projects
Darden Hill Road (CR 162) widening segment
Project: Hays County will widen a 1.7-mile portion of Darden Hill Road from East Sawyer Ranch Road to RM 1826 in Driftwood. Darden Hill Road will be extended into a four-lane divided roadway.
Update: A utility coordination public service announcement and work authorization were presented to the Hays County Commissioners Court on April 14. Hays County launched a new website for transportation project updates in May.
RM 1431 road and intersection improvements
Project: Road improvements are planned from New Hope Drive to Bagdad Road in Cedar Park and also at the intersection of RM 1431/Whitestone Boulevard and 183A Toll, both in an attempt to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
Update: Per city officials, the project is moving into preliminary engineering and design of the intersection. The road improvements schematic has been approved by the Texas Department of Transportation, and is awaiting funding approval and environmental clearance.
Ongoing projects
Project: The project adds four 12-foot-wide lanes, a center turn lane and a 10-foot shared-use path from Hwy. 29 to Oak Ridge Road in Georgetown.
Update: Per city officials, all four lanes are open to traffic, with ancillary work remaining. Substantial completion is planned for July.
Project: The road will connect to the SH 130 frontage road in Pflugerville.
Update: Per city officials, the completion date was extended to August after initially expected to be complete in May.
I-35 Capital Express Central Project (Lady Bird Lake segment)
Project: The Lady Bird Lake segment of the I-35 Capital Express Central project runs from Holly Street to SH 71/Ben White Boulevard. Work includes reconstructing the Lady Bird Lake bridge, adding two high-occupancy-vehicle managed lanes in both directions, building a single-point urban interchange at Riverside Drive, a pedestrian-only bridge at Woodland Avenue, and bike and pedestrian paths along the corridor.
Update: Per TxDOT officials, Woodland Avenue under I-35 has been permanently closed. Drivers traveling east or west on Woodland Avenue should use the frontage roads and make U-turns at Riverside Drive or Oltorf Street. Northbound frontage road access just north of Riverside Drive is closed through 2029. Beginning June 1, the southbound I-35 bypass ramp to 15th Street was closed through mid-July for bridge construction.
Completed projects
Project: Part of the larger Waterloo Greenway downtown park and trail system—a 1.5-mile multiuse greenway along Waller Creek that revitalizes open space and connects key districts—Phase 2 “The Confluence” linked Fourth Street to Lady Bird Lake.
Update: Phase 2 “The Confluence” opened June 6 with new continuous off-street bike and pedestrian trails linking existing networks. Palm Park is in the schematic design phase and is expected to complete by 2028, according to the greenway’s website. Phase 3 is in concept design.
