Apple announced Dec. 13 it will invest $1 billion to build a 3 million-square-foot second campus opening in 2021 on a 133-acre tract of land on the Robinson Ranch property northeast of the intersection of Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive. Apple officials stated they will initially hire 5,000 new employees, but the new campus could house 15,000 employees in the future.
The latest
As Apple anticipates starting site preparation and installing utilities in 2019, at least one area homebuilder is already feeling increased interest in residents buying homes near the Parmer Lane corridor. Andy Lee, director of sales at Pulte Homes, said interest has piqued at Preston Village near Wells Branch and Parmer Crossing just north of SH 45 N. Both neighborhoods will have about 200-250 homes, and Pulte has sold about half the homesite. Because Austin does not have much land left to develop, areas north—including Round Rock, Pflugerville and Leander—could see even more new housing, said Cindi Bell, president-elect for the Williamson County Association of Realtors.
