Kerbey Lane Cafe is in the permitting process with the city of Austin for its ninth location on Braker Lane. The local eatery submitted a site plan for review in March, and construction is expected to begin later in 2018 with the restaurant opening likely in late 2019, said Amanda Kuda, Kerbey Lane Cafe’s vice president of communication. “We’re just as anxious as everyone else to get that location moving,” she said. The new 5,800-square-foot restaurant—located at 1806 W. Braker Lane, Austin, next to the U.S. Postal Service—will have seating for around 266 guests and also have a large outdoor patio, Kuda said. Also new to the Braker Lane location will be a homier design that Kerbey Lane Cafe has been pursuing for its newer locations. The new design by Kris Swift of Future Design Now will also be incorporated into the Mueller location opening later in 2018 in the new Texas Mutual Insurance Co. building on Aldrich Street. “Mueller will have a different homey vibe from some of our newer stores here in Central Austin,” Kuda said. “Most of our remodeled stores have a vintage diner vibe. This will be more warm and inviting and more to the homey feel of the original store on Kerbey Lane.” The shell of the Mueller location is complete, and Kuda said they expect to start the build-out within the next month. Kerbey Lane Cafe secured a long-term lease for the Braker Lane restaurant four years ago, but the Mueller project and the need to update the Northwest Austin restaurant pushed the Braker location to the back burner. From June 11-20, Kerbey Lane Cafe will close the Northwest Austin restaurant located at 13435 N. US 183, Ste. 415, Austin, for a facelift that also will include updating the design to the homey feel. That location has been in the Anderson Arbor Shopping Center since 2008.
