Kerbey Lane Cafe has secured a lease at 1806 W. Braker Lane next to the post office with plans to open another restaurant in North Austin.

CEO Mason Ayer said the company is in the design and permitting phase, but construction could start in late summer. The restaurant should open six to eight months after construction begins.

"Our [US] 183 location just does a ton of business," he said. "All business is good business, but sometimes people are waiting hours to get seated. We don't have a presence in Northwest Austin."

The new restaurant—which will comprise 6,500 square feet, including a 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio—will be Kerbey Lane's first ground-up restaurant. The site is about 2.8 acres, but 1.4 acres of that is a drainage easement that will remain untouched. The restaurant will be about the same size as the location on South Lamar Boulevard.

"We're looking forward to getting it done and open," Ayer said. "It will be an alternative to some of the higher-end restaurants in The Domain."

This is the second new restaurant Kerbey Lane Cafe has announced recently. It is planning to open its sixth Austin-area restaurant in August in the Village at Westlake Shopping Center, 701 S. Capital of Texas Hwy.

Kerbey Lane will celebrate 34 years of business May 5. For more information, visit www.kerbeylanecafe.com.
