More than triple the amount of new students anticipated arrived through the doors of Pflugerville ISD campuses in the first week of classes, according to district numbers.

PfISD Chief Financial Officer Ed Ramos told trustees Sept. 5 the district grew by 735 students as of the end of August. PfISD anticipated a growth of 233 students, Ramos said.

The student population increase represents a 3% year-over-year growth for the district. Previously, the district said it anticipated that growth to sit at 1%.

Most of the growth occurred on the east side of the district, Ramos said, at campuses including Riojas Elementary, Copperfield Elementary, Cele Middle and Weiss High schools. As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, four neighborhoods in eastern Pflugerville recently delivered more than 1,000 single-family units.

While the growth has forced the district to purchase multiple portables at Mott Elementary School to alleviate crowding, it also means the school will receive additional funding from the state later this year.

“It ensures we maintain the Fast Growth Allotment, which ensures [PfISD] $6 million,” Ramos said.
