The city of Southlake offered local media a glimpse into its highly anticipated Champions Club ahead of its April 6 opening date. Champions Club is lauded as the city’s state-of-the-art recreation and fitness center.
City staff and officials and many community members also attended the March 26 ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception that immediately followed.
The $37 million facility is the newest addition to The Marq Southlake, a community center complex owned by the city that also houses the Legends Hall event venue.
It has been nine years in the making, Southlake Community Services Director Chris Tribble said.
The 82,000-square-foot Champions Club features a self-service coffee bar, exercise equipment, an indoor playground, a running track, an indoor pool with water slides, an indoor fieldhouse, a terrace with cabanas, fitness studios, multipurpose and party rooms for rent, a gymnasium, child care space and an outdoor turf field.
Some of the fitness classes that will be offered include Zumba, water aerobics, yoga, cycling, meditation and barre.
Southlake residents and nonresidents can purchase daily passes or memberships to enjoy Champions Club’s various programs and amenities.
The project was entirely funded by sales tax revenue, said Martin Schelling, board president of the Southlake Community Enhancement and Development Corp.
“This is for you and about you,” Southlake Mayor Laura Hill said, addressing city staff and community members during the reception. “I hope you spend many, many hours here—not just getting in shape ... but also enjoying and being really proud of your community.”
