Beginning Jan. 19, motorists in Hutto will no longer be able to drive on Short Street.
The permanent road closure comes as the first phases of the Co-Op District, Hutto’s first mixed-use development, are set to open, according to the city of Hutto. City officials advise motorists to use West Street as an alternative route for downtown traffic.
The city of Hutto vacated the street in 2018. According to city officials, Short Street was then sold to MA Partners, developers of the Co-Op District, to allow for development of
Southside Market & Barbeque.
The
new Hutto City Hall is set to open in the mixed-use development in the coming weeks, according to city officials. When the new city hall opens, traffic will enter the Co-Op District through Live Oak Street or Co-Op Drive, a street that has yet to open.
The Live Oak Street extension has already been paved and will open to the public when the new city hall opens, per city officials.
Co-Op Boulevard, which will run
through the mixed-use development, was paved during pavement of the Live Oak Street extension. City officials say this road will not open until improvements are made on Hwy. 79, which is a project overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation. A timeline was not provided for the Hwy. 79 improvements.
