Collin College is making progress in the first phase of its $600 million bond program voters approved in May 2017.
Recently, the college opened its new public safety training center in McKinney, broke ground on its technical campus in Allen and a campus in Wylie. The Allen and Wylie campuses are expected to open in 2020.
“Everything is going according to the timeline,” said Ken Lynn, Collin College chief financial officer. “We are on time and on budget for Phase 1 projects that we have broken ground on, and we are in the design phase for Phase 2; we will keep those within budget, and we’ll deliver those projects on time.”
The second phase includes a new IT Center of Excellence at the Preston Ridge campus in Frisco. The center will help students develop skills to work in technology-related industries. Programs that will be offered include cybersecurity, computer networking, data science and software development. The center will begin construction in fall 2019 and is expected to open in August 2021.
The second phase also includes construction of two new campuses in Farmersville and Celina. Both these campuses are expected to open in August 2021.
The college will start planning for the third phase after the second phase projects begin construction in 2019, Lynn said. The third phase will consist of two projects: a welcome center built on the Preston Ridge campus in Frisco and the Central Park campus in McKinney.
Lynn said the welcome centers will be the new front doors for each of the campuses and will be one-stop shops that will house all of student services for student registration. The centers will include the registrar’s office, counseling, bookstores and bursar’s office.
The third phase is expected to start construction in 2021 and be complete in 2022.
“We’re pleased that the timetable is intact; we’re on time and we’re on budget and we’re moving forward aggressively,” Lynn said. “We’re looking forward to delivering these facilities for the community and education to the young folks that need our services.”
