The cities of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake each reported mosquito samples that tested for West Nile Virus as recently as Oct. 3, prompting city officials to schedule sprayings to treat areas within a half-mile radius of the sample sites, weather permitting. Grapevine announced the positive testing of one sample from the area of the 1500 block on North Dooley Street, according to the city’s social media page. Colleyville reported that five mosquito samples collected throughout the city tested positive for West Nile Virus Wednesday, according to a city mosquito alert. Positive samples came from the areas of: • 1600 block of Hall Johnson Road • 200 block of McDonwell School Road • 5200 block of Bransford Road • 4100 block of Windermere Court • 500 block of Forest Meadow The city will continue to test and monitor these areas even after initial sprayings and larvacide treatments, according to the news alert. Mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus were also detected in Southlake on the 2200 block of Shady Oaks Drive, according to a Southlake news release. This is the street’s fourth positive sample of the year, and sprayings are scheduled to continue through Monday night unless a major rain event takes place. Southlake city officials advise residents to take preventive measures and reduce mosquito populations by: • Draining standing water • Dress in long sleeves and pants • Wear insect repellent containing diethyl-meta-toluamide or DEET
