At its July 9 meeting, the Klein ISD board of trustees called for a trustee election Nov. 6 for three seats with terms expiring this year.

The terms for positions 3, 4 and 5, held respectively by Bill Pilkington, Steve J. Szymczak and Ronnie K. Anderson, will expire this year. The board unanimously approved the measure.

The first day for candidates to file for the positions was July 21, and the last day is Aug. 20, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. The last date to register to vote for the November election is Oct. 9.

In other business at the July meeting, the KISD board of trustees approved changes to the student handbooks for the 2018-19 year. A new set of specific procedures is established in the handbook for children receiving special education services.

Among other requirements, the guidelines state the district must respond within 15 days to a parent’s written or verbal request for an evaluation for special education services for a student. The evaluation must be completed within 45 days in most cases, according to the handbook.

The 45-day requirement has not changed from previous procedures, but the new rules specify the district must respond within 15 days. The handbook also now includes more specific details about the evaluation process along with contact information and resources available to students and families.
