On April 14, the Carroll ISD board of trustees approved a contract with Hellas Construction, Inc. for the Carroll ISD Turf and Track Multi-Campus Project with a cost not to exceed $8,768,605. The contract includes artificial turf installation, track renovations and other related items as part of the 2017 bond project at Carroll Sr. High, Carroll High, Carroll Middle, Dawson Middle and Dragon Stadium. Staff said officials have met with four companies known for their turf and track products and services. The team, including the coaching staff, engaged with LPA Architects to design the needs for this project. The scope of this work includes installation of artificial turf, tracks, fencing, bleachers, retaining walls, concrete site work, band towers, drainage systems, netting systems, long jumps, pole vaults, and other related items that were identified by the Capital Needs Committee when they made the recommendation to the School Board for this Bond Program, Bond Program Manager John Haugen said. "The fencing work is part of this bid process," Haugen said. "There's a lot of security fencing, based upon the idea that we want to make sure that we're patrolling access to some of these turf facilities. We have some turnstile-type scenarios being put in simply so we can't have people riding bikes on the turf and on the track and that type of thing." Haugen said the turf projects are budgeted in the bond program. Board president Sheri Mills pointed out that with some chalk paint the new turf fields can also be marked for soccer and lacrosse games in addition to football.
