Frisco City Council approved a specific-use permit for an electrical substation on the southeast corner of Legacy Drive and Main Street during Tuesday's meeting.

The substation will support the underground power lines being installed along the median of Main.

Main is being widened from four lanes to six lanes from FM 423 to the Dallas North Tollway, a 3-mile stretch of roadway. The power lines as well as water lines are being installed beneath the roadway median in conjunction with the widening project.

The projected overall cost of the widening project is $26.6 million. Brazos Electric will pay $4.7 million, and the city will fund the remaining amount through road bonds.
