Plano ISD trustees adopted a resolution supporting “a culture of voting” for both employees and voting-eligible students but only after tossing out a majority of the original provisions. At a Nov. 14 meeting, trustees tabled the resolution, which was put together by the Texas Association of School Boards, after discussing the necessity of some of the provisions. At a work session Tuesday evening, trustees voted 4-2 for the resolution with trustees Yoram Solomon and Angela Powell opposing. Solomon said he wanted to clarify some of the language of the resolution. The adopted resolution struck out seven of the nine original items while adding two extra items. The adopted resolution now authorizes the administration to inform employees and students of the importance of voting, where and when to vote, provide voter registration applications and prohibit negative consequences regardless of whether employees or students choose to vote. At the Nov. 14 meeting, Solomon expressed concern over some of the provisions in the original resolution, saying parts of the resolution were not free of influence. “I want to make sure that if we [pass this resolution], we include something that says, ‘This is going to be free of any influence, any consequences, any retaliation and that it’s confidential,’” Solomon said.
