Oak Ridge North City Council held its second meeting of the month Monday night. Here are the three things residents may have missed:

1. Oak Ridge North hires a new city secretary

Elizabeth Harrell was sworn in as the new city secretary for Oak Ridge North at Monday night's city council meeting. The position was previously held by Laura Calcote.

2. Holiday celebrations to begin this weekend
Community programs coordinator Sarah McClure said the city's holiday celebrations will begin this weekend with a tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26 at the intersection of Robinson Road and I-45 frontage road. A Christmas hayride event will also be held Dec. 15 at Marilyn Edgar Park.

3. City authorizes engineering payment for master thoroughfare plan study
City Council members unanimously approved a payment of $14,874 to Brown And Gay Engineers for the master thoroughfare plan study.

The city decided to move forward with creating a master thoroughfare plan in April in order to give the city more control of right of way for future projects.

City manager Vicky Rudy said the plan would be funded by the city's Economic Development Corporation. City Council members approved an EDC amendment in April to add $12,185 to the budget category for thoroughfare planning and approved an EDC expenditure of $37,185 for future master thoroughfare plan projects.
