The Austin Parks Foundation announced the recipients of its 2017 Austin City Limits Music Festival Park Grants on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Five local parks will receive $200,000 in funding to improve accessibility, rehabilitate historical structures and improve sports fields. Eleven community groups applied for funding. Of the five parks that were chosen, four are in Central Austin. The McBeth Recreation Center, located at 2401 Columbus Drive in Zilker Park, will receive $50,000 to improve accessibility on pedestrian and bike trails for individuals with disabilities. Parque Zaragoza, a park located at 2608 Gonzalez St., will also receive $50,000 to improve Little League fields, including new safety netting and batting cages. Shipe Park at 4400 Avenue G received $50,000 to rehabilitate the historic log cabin adjacent to the pool. And the Robert E. Lee Tributary at Zilker Park received $7,500 to support restoration efforts of the Old Little Zilker Channel. The grants are intended for larger park improvements that require $5,000-$50,000 in funding. Since 2006, the grants have been awarded through a competitive process twice a year.
