Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto all have major park projects underway. Typically, bond funds are used to develop parks, as is the case with Pflugerville’s 1849 Park, featured on the front page of this issue. Voters in Pflugerville funded bond questions in 2014 and 2015 that are being used for the $10 million first phase of the project. Future funding is undetermined, but will likely be mostly bond elections to cover the anticipated $52 million in subsequent phases. In Hutto, the city in May acquired 65 acres of park land with Brushy Creek frontage, which will likely be developed with athletic fields, trails and an ampitheater. The latest park news in Round Rock includes the current expansion of Play for All Abilities Park, which will double the size of the park that has been open since 2012. The expansion was funded through private donations totaling $400,000, an atypical way to pay for improvements.
