At the Sept. 5 Colleyville City Council meeting, council members approved the naming of nine ponds surrounding the Colleyville Nature Center, which is located on Mill Wood Drive.

In March, a group, Friends of the Colleyville Nature Center, approached the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to request the naming of the ponds.

The group said naming the ponds would help first responders identify which pond a resident may be at in case of an emergency situation. The group also said naming the ponds would be beneficial for identifying bird sightings and where certain activities are taking place.

The ponds were named Long Pond, Duck Haven Pond, Anglers Pond, Pecan Pond, Peaceful Pond, Mill Pond, Hidden Pond, Dry Pond and Herman’s Pond.
