Tonight at 7 Grapevine's Main Street will close down as volunteers and city officials gather to transform Grapevine's historic downtown into the framework for the annual Grapefest celebration. Stages will be constructed and areas marked off as the city gathers to celebrate the festival in its 31st year.
"It's really going to be a lot of fun," Grapevine Convention and Visitor Bureau Director of Communications Leigh Lyons said.
The festival begins Thursday and will run through Sunday at 6 p.m. This year the festival will feature wines from the Finger Lakes region in New York and the Niagara-On-The-Lake town in Canada. Here are three things to do while at Grapefest this weekend.
1. Sample the wine
Grapefest hosts the largest consumer-judged wine competition in the United States with the People's Choice Wine Tasting Classic. Lyons said this is one of the most popular events at the festival. However, this event does require a separate ticket. Those planning to attend the wine-tasting event should purchase their ticket in advance to save money and avoid missing out, Lyons said.
2. Explore more than alcohol
Some family-friendly activities Lyons recommended include the KidsWorld entertainment area, which will feature the Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium at the touch pool as well as a Legoland Discovery Center. Many events are educational and interactive, and stopping by each featured location marked on the KidsWorld passport will result in a prize.
3. Listen to the music
The festival has several bands and performers lined up over the weekend playing at multiple stages. Musical guests include Foghat, Phil Vassar, Strangelove and Jonathan Tyler.
