Correction: The original update said that the announcement was made Tuesday morning instead of Thursday morning. The story has been updated to reflect the accurate day of the week.
Update at 9:20 a.m. Aug. 17: City of Plano spokesperson Steve Stoler announced Thursday morning the city had canceled its Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve contract with Starfest Music Festival organizers. Stoler said the city notified the promoters that they failed to comply with terms of the contract. A representative from the festival was not immediately available for comment Thursday morning.
Taking an a-typical route, Starfest Music Festival is opting to announce a new artist every weekday leading up to its two-day event.
Having already named its first hip-hop artist, Lil Wayne, on Friday, Starfest organizer and Dallas entrepreneur David Taylor said he hopes to maintain an air of mystery around the event.
The festival will take place Sept. 8-9 at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve in Plano.
“If we announced [the artists] all at once, it would kind of ruin the feel,” Taylor said.
Taylor said he and his partners wanted to create an event that would bring all types of music genres to the same venue, such as EDM, hip-hop and country.
Citing inspiration from music festivals like Austin City Limits and concerts he had attended as a child, Taylor said he wanted to give back to the Dallas community.
“We always wanted something very similar to ACL in North Texas, but we just haven’t seen it,” Taylor said.
Attendees can purchase tickets on the
festival's website, even though not all artists have been announced yet, however Taylor said the first performers announced will not be the biggest ones at the event.
“It's almost like a guessing game," Taylor said.
