Dry Society opened in March 2016 with the mantra of customer service, consistency and convenience, Fouch said. She previously worked with celebrity stylists in her former home of Las Vegas and tried to open a blow-dry bar with some of them there. However, she faced too many obstacles, including a declining economy, she said.
After moving to Austin for family reasons, she decided to try the concept again and opened the styling lounge. Her brother, Jim Wallwork, is the manager.
“I loved the concept and would use blow-dry bars all the time,” she said. “It was my go-to.”
A blowout is a blow-dried style that adds volume and bounce to one’s hair. The stylists at Dry Society can work with all textures of hair, and services include special hair treatments, braid and ponytail styles, washes and personalized updos.
“We want to make sure that we consult the customer and we do what’s going to work for their hair,” Fouch said.
Customer service reigns at Dry Society, Fouch said. The shop offers complimentary scalp massages, cocktails and a free birthday blowout.

“We’ll come in before hours and stay after hours to accommodate our customers,” she said. “We really want them to feel like we really care. I think that’s what really separates us from our competitors.”
Services for children age 10 and younger are offered at a discounted price. Dry Society can host private parties for any event and even caters food and provides drinks or desserts as the client desires. Much of what is offered is complimentary, Fouch said.
In August, Dry Society Styling Lounge will undergo renovations to add three more styling stations that will be devoted to makeup. Fouch said she plans to hire a local artist to paint a mural on the back wall.
