Although most JuiceLand locations tend to have busier days on weekends, founder Matt Shook said the four stores in Northwest Austin cater toward more of a weekday commuter crowd with customers quickly stopping in to grab a drink or snack before heading to work.

“So many people live and work in this area,” Shook said. “There’s so many businesses in Northwest Austin where we can fuel [workers] for breakfast and lunch.”

JuiceLand opened its first Northwest Austin location in 2015 on RM 620 near Cedar Park and has expanded in the area since then. Last October the Arbor Town Square store opened, and two more locations opened in early 2017 on Parmer Lane as well as US 183.

The company’s growth is not confined to one area, Shook said. Since he first rebranded a juice bar on Barton Springs Road in 2011 and started JuiceLand, he has opened 20 locations, including shops in Dallas and Houston.

Shook said the rapid addition of new stores in recent years has largely been driven by JuiceLand’s practice of promoting from within. He said his employees are led by ambitious people who share a desire to grow the company.

“We have 20 managers who started as entry-level employees who are now managing stores,” Shook said. “If you’re easygoing and fun and healthy, you’re probably going to move up in the company.”

Part of the decor at the US 183 location features old baseball cards that Shook found at a thrift store. He said employees often give the cards captions containing jokes.

JuiceLand focuses on offering a customer experience that rivals the speedy service at most chain fast-food restaurants but with healthy alternatives, Shook said. The menu features cold-pressed organic vegetable juices and smoothies as well as vegan and gluten-free snacks and meals. The company also has a juice cleanse program.

Shook said he wants to provide a balance to fast food that is readily available in Austin. He said he anticipates the market for health-focused food paired with quick service will continue to grow.
