At the June 6 Southlake City Council meeting, a special election was called for Sept. 9 to fill the vacancy on the Place 6 seat, which was left vacant by Gary Fawks.

Fawks, who resigned in May because of a job promotion, stated in a letter to Council that it has been a "pleasure to serve with such a great group of dedicated public servants and a first class city staff over the past three years. Leaving the council at this time was one of a number of things that made the decision to accept this position one of the most difficult I have ever made.”

The term for Place 6 will expire May 2020.

The filing period will begin June 9 and conclude at 5  p.m. July 10. Early voting will begin Aug. 23 and end Sept. 5.

Because this will be the only election held at this same time in either county, Southlake Town Hall will be an early voting and Election Day polling location for both Tarrant County and Denton County residents.
