Following a long weekend, there are several things happening in Conroe and Montgomery this week, May 29-June 2.
Here are a few things residents should keep in mind:
1. Memorial Day is observed May 29 meaning all government offices will be closed during normal Monday business hours. The federal holiday honors those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. For a list of Memorial Day events happening in the Greater Houston area,

2. The city of Montgomery will host a neighborhood meeting on at 7 p.m. May 30 to update residents on the status of the $1.5 million Buffalo Springs Drive bridge and canal repairs. During the meeting, city engineer Ed Shackelford will present information regarding the city’s FEMA submission and the projected timeline for the reopening of the bridge.

The meeting will take place at the Community Center, located at 14420 Liberty St., Montgomery.
3. The First Thursday Concert Series takes place June 1 featuring Randall King from 6:30-7:30 p.m.and Mike & the Moonpies from 8-9:30 p.m. The event is free and will take place at Heritage Place, located at 500 Metcalf St., Conroe.
4. The Isaac Conroe First Thursday Farmer’s Market takes place June 1 from 4-8 p.m. The free monthly event features live music and a several local vendors selling a variety of products including homegrown fruits and vegetables, local spices and handmade goods. The market will take place in Founders Park, located at the corner of Metcalf and Main streets near the Owen Theatre.
5. The U.S. Census Bureau announced May 24 that
Conroe was named the fastest-growing city in the nation, with a 7.8 percent population growth between July 2015 and July 2016. To read more about the ranking,
