New council members sworn in
Following the May 6 city election, three new council members were sworn into office Wednesday: Ted Fletcher (Position 2), Byron Bevers (Position 3) and Charlie Bradt (Position 4).
Bradt was also appointed to serve as mayor pro tem for a one-year term.
City committee changes
Several changes were also made to city committees Wednesday evening in light of the newly elected council. Bradt stepped down from his position on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the council unanimously appointed resident Robert Galatas to take his place.
Likewise, upon deciding not to seek re-election, former Council Member Darrell Frazier stepped down from his position on the Municipal Development District board of directors and the council unanimously appointed Bevers to take his place.
Council tables resolution regarding power station
The council unanimously opted to table the adoption of a resolution regarding Entergy Texas Inc.'s plan to construct a Montgomery County power station near Willis until the resolution is addressed by Conroe City Council.
The cities of Willis, Beaumont, Huntsville and Oak Ridge North, along with The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, have passed resolutions of support regarding this matter.
Changes to city's employee manual
The council unanimously approved changes to the city’s employee policy manual regarding body art/tattoos and jury duty compensation.
City employees with body art/tattoos formerly had to keep tattoos completely covered while working. The revised rule allows tattoos/body art to be visible as long as they do not cover more than half of any one body area, contain vulgarities, nudity, racist words or images, gang-related symbols, violent images or obscenities. Questionable tattoos/body art will be reviewed by the city’s four department heads.
Council also unanimously approved amendments to the jury and court duty policy, which states that employees who are not scheduled to work on the day or time he or she is serving on jury duty will be paid regular time/overtime.
The council opted to table the item regarding communication/chain of command for further review. The item will return to council at the June 14 workshop meeting.
