To help Williamson County officials better understand emergency preparedness needs in the community, members of the public are invited to participate in two emergency planning surveys. The Williamson County Office of Emergency Management is preparing two community protection plans in the event of floods and wildfires. Through the surveys, the public can provide feedback to help identify local values and general attitudes about the hazards and risks related to flooding and wildfires in the community. “We greatly appreciate all members of the Williamson County community taking time to participate in these surveys to help us in preparing for these types of natural disasters,” said Jarred Thomas, Williamson County emergency management coordinator. “Each survey will take only approximately 10 minutes to complete but will be a significant contribution to the development of these plans.” The county is working with watershed stakeholders to develop the Williamson County Flood Protection Plan. This plan will be used to formulate and document mitigation strategies that will aid in protecting life and property from the impacts of future flood events. To fill out this survey, go to the CFPP survey. Participants will be asked if their home is located in a floodplain. To determine if a home is located in a floodplain, residents can check the Williamson County Interactive Flood Maps or the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program at www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program. Community members can also fill out the Community Wildfire Protection Plan survey. Several cities in the county already have a community wildfire protection plan, including Leander, Austin, Florence, Georgetown and Round Rock. Williamson County residents can fill out the CWPP survey here.
