The Klein ISD board of trustees approved a new strategic district improvement plan at its meeting on Monday night.
KISD Superintendent Bret Champion and KISD Chief Learning Officer Jenny McGown presented the plan, which they said will improve the district by cultivating talent and building a sense of community.
Champion and McGown said these goals will be achieved through five different avenues:
- Utilizing a viable curriculum and providing every student with a pathway to success
- Focusing on engaging students in rigorous learning, while also building their character
- Closing any gaps in students’ education by personalizing the learning experience
- Growing and retaining leaders throughout the district, so that every student learns in a quality environment
- Gathering feedback that will build strategic partnerships and foster a culture of learning.
After hearing the presentation, the board of trustees unanimously approved the plan and trustee Steve Szymczak, thanked the strategic planning committee for its work on the project.
“I want to compliment the committee for taking this seriously,” Szymczak said, “this is important stuff.”
According to the executive summary that accompanied the meeting’s agenda, the strategic planning committee consists of 70 members including, teachers, principals, students and community and business leaders.
Champion said, the committee has worked through five meetings and reviewed over 1,300 pieces of written feedback over the last several months.
At Tuesday's meeting the board also approved the contract for the construction of synthetic turf fields at Klein Collins, Klein Forest and Klein Oak to Paragon Sports Constructors, LLC. staffing positions including,
The board approved several staffing positions including an accounts payable clerk, a radio manager, a program coordinator for secondary development and a music therapist.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation recognized the nine schools which were awarded a total of $71,500 in grant money. The foundation awards these grants twice annually to teachers who propose innovative ideas they want to implement at their schools.
