With 19 out of 19 district precincts reporting, Pearland ISD board of trustees Position 2 candidate Mike Floyd declared victory tonight, receiving 3,075 individual votes—a total of 54.21 percent of the votes cast, according to unofficial numbers released by Brazoria County. Floyd, an 18-year-old senior at Dawson High School, is president of the school's student council. Floyd ran against incumbent Rusty DeBorde, who has been a trustee since 2011. DeBorde received 2,597 votes—a total of 45.79 percent of the total votes cast. Floyd tweeted his victory at 9:21 p.m., before the unofficial results were posted on the Brazoria County website.“For a long time now, Pearland has had a persistence of intolerance, and today was a referendum," Floyd said after election results were announced. "Today the city has spoken loudly and clearly and said very loudly that this will not longer be tolerated.” Floyd said he plans to bring the perspective of the area's youth to the board. "That was one of the key components of our campaign," Floyd said. "We're going to bring transparency and fiscal responsibility, and essentially we’re going to bring an acceptance of the very diversity that we have." In the race for Position 3, Pam Boegler received 3,272 votes—a total of 60.39 percent of the total votes cast, retaining the seat she was appointed to fill after the death of trustee Virgil Gant. Opponents Al Lloyd received 1,527 votes—28.17 percent of the total votes cast—and Trevor Hale received 620 votes—11.44 percent of the total votes cast—in the race for Position 3. "I want to thank the voters of Pearland ISD for entrusting me with the youth of our future," Boegler said. "I will do my best to continue to make Pearland the best district in the state, and I appreciate their confidence in me." Charles Gooden Jr. received 4,577 votes in the uncontested race for board Position 1. All results are unofficial until canvassed.WE WON! MIKE FLOYD: 54.21% RUSTY DEBORDE: 45.79%
