From meetings to increased traffic, here are a few things happening in the Tomball and Magnolia areas this week.

1. Middlelands Festival comes to the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds in Todd Mission from Friday, May 5, to Sunday, May 7, with a pre-party scheduled for Thursday evening. Shuttles are scheduled to depart from the Houston, Conroe and Woodlands areas Thursday and Friday as festivalgoers flock to Todd Mission from around the state. The inaugural festival, presented by Insomniac, features camping, entertainment, electronic music and a medieval theme.

2. The City of Tomball will flush its water system May 1-5, beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 1. According to a legal notice from the city, residents may experience low water pressure during the flushing times as well as discoloration of the water. The citywide flush seeks to remove residual particles from the water lines and introduce freshly treated water. Contact the Public Works Department at 281-290-1400 with questions.

3. Tomball City Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at City Hall, located at 401 Market Street, Tomball. The council will discuss zoning for the Grand Parkway Town Center, a shopping center to be located at the southwest corner of Hwy. 249 and Hwy. 99 in Tomball.

4. Community members can review instructional materials for Magnolia ISD's 2017-18 academic year from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1-5 at the Celeste Graves Education Support Center, located at 31141 Nichols Sawmill Road, Magnolia. According to a statement from MISD, the State Board of Education has approved a list of new materials for world language and Career and Technology Education courses. After the materials are reviewed by MISD teachers and parents, a committee will present the new instructional materials to the board of trustees for approval.
