Katy ISD trustees reconvened Monday to vote on issues discussed during the April 17 work-study meeting. Here is what you need to know:
1. Stanley elementary school renamed
Trustees unanimously voted to approve renaming Stan C. Stanley Elementary School to Stan C. and Patsy Stanley Elementary School. Patsy, a 34-year educator, is involved in several area organizations including the Katy Area Retired Educators. Her husband, Stan, the elementary school’s first namesake, died last year following a short illness. After the vote, several trustees spoke positively about Patsy, including board President Rebecca Fox.
“When Stan passed we all said, ‘Why isn’t Patsy’s name on the school,’” Fox said. “I’m glad we got to correct that here tonight.”
2. Board approves ISD salary increases
The board unanimously approved a salary increase of $1,800 per employee for the 2017-2018 school year. This action is equivalent to a 3.16 average pay increase for teachers and a 3 percent average increase for non-teachers. Last year, the board approved a 1 percent increase for both teacher and non-teacher pay ranges for the 2016-2017 school year.
3. Construction for elementary school No. 41
By unanimous vote, board members approved a proposal for the construction of the new elementary school. The school will be the 41st elementary school in Katy ISD. The board will purchase a 13-acre property from NASH FM 529, LLC with a total acquisition cost not to exceed $1,557,270. The original design allocation of $850,000 for the school was passed as part of the 2014 district bond.
