The Texas Election Code requires that general and special elections be held on a single date, or a uniform election date.

Under the election code, the uniform dates must be held:

  • the first Saturday in May in odd-numbered years;

  • the first Saturday in May in even-numbered years for elections held by a political subdivision other than a county; or

  • the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

The uniform election date does not apply to certain elections, such as runoff elections and emergency elections ordered by the Texas governor.

Under these requirements, the uniform election dates for 2017 are May 6 and Nov. 7.

The city of Frisco, Frisco ISD and Collin College will all hold their general election on May 6. For more information about local candidates for the May 6 election, see Page 29.
