San Marcos City Council meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday


An executive session item is on the agenda for Tuesday’s San Marcos City Council meeting to discuss the appointment of an interim city manager to lead city staff until a permanent replacement can be found. San Marcos City Manager Jared Miller was appointed the city manager in Amarillo in January. Assistant City Manager Collette Jamison was named interim city manager but resigned the position last week. City Council will also discuss the purchase of approximately 50 acres of land to expand the Purgatory Creek Natural Area near Wonder World Drive and Hunter Road. Council will also consider allowing the interim city manager to apply for a grant allowing for the purchase of an additional 152 acres to expand the natural area. Kyle City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday


Kyle City Council will discuss a second reading of an ordinance that would change the zoning in an area near downtown to allow for single-family homes on 6.28 acres. Council will also receive a presentation from the Hays Caldwell Public Utility Agency, of which the city of Kyle is a member, on a transition from public utility agency to a water authority. Buda City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday


Buda residents are invited to give input during a public hearing related to the city’s flood warning system. The city of Buda is heading up the project, which will place flood warning devices near flood-prone areas throughout the city. The city of San Marcos hosts a groundbreaking ceremony for a new fire station on Friday


Fire station No. 4 will be built at 1404 Wonder World Drive, San Marcos, and will replace the city’s existing fire station at 404 Broadway St. That station was built in 1982, and city officials say the station has had structural and functional issues. The new station will be 11,182 square feet in size. It will take 10-12 months to build. The groundbreaking begins at 4 p.m.

SXSWi begins on Friday


The South by Southwest Conferences and Festivals takes place throughout Austin in early and mid-March. The Interactive festival begins Friday, bringing technology and media professionals from throughout the world to Austin. SXSW Interactive runs March 10-19.
