Jan. 28 2017 Lunar New Year Festival The Chinese Community Center will celebrate the Year of the Rooster at its Lunar New Year Festival. The festival will feature a full day of more than 20 unique cultural performances from China, Vietnam, Korea and India. There will also be an Asian bazaar with over a dozen Asian street-style foods, Asian arts and crafts and an array of Asian cultural exhibits, as well as games, raffles and face paintings for children. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. Jan. 28 9th Annual Houston Press Artopia Houston Press will host its ninth annual Artopia event on Saturday, which will feature an evening of culture, fashion shows, dance and theatrical performances, along with galleries filled with works from local artists. Ticket prices include complimentary food, wine, cocktail and beer sampling. Individuals or organizations that have made an impact in the local arts community will also be eligible for the Mastermind Award, which is a $2,000 check from Houston Press and sponsored by Stella Artois. 8-11 p.m.$45-$60 (general admission), $75-$100 (Jumper Maybach VIP admission). Jan. 28 Fossil, Mineral, Jewelry, and Archaeological Trade Show Hosted by the Houston Gem and Mineral Society, the trade show will have 36 different tables of fossils, minerals, artifacts and handmade jewelry. Jan. 29 Karbach Cook-Off The Karbach Cook-Off is a charity event for the Robert Garner Firefighter Foundation that will be headlined by Aaron Lewis, Tracy Byrd and Sundance Head.
