Stanley Wang has filed for the Place 1 seat on Frisco City Council.

The special election to fill the seat will take place Feb. 18. The Place 1 seat is an unexpired term that will be up for election again in May 2018.

Wang said he decided to run for Council to help provide some financial guidance for the city’s budget.

“The debt in the city is exploding,” he said. “The debt growth is faster than the city’s growth.”

Wang has spent 14 years in the financial industry and currently works as a data scientist for Intuit. His experience working with numbers all day, he said, could be an essential resource during the city’s annual budget season.

He said he would also like to enable the average resident to better understand the city budget by using less jargon.

Other issues Wang said he would like to tackle, if elected to council, include improving the city’s data resources and shifting focus away from high-density housing.

“The city is growing so fast, we barely have time to consider if we should continue doing the same thing we’ve been doing,” Wang said about adding multifamily housing.

Wang has a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from Yale University and has lived in Frisco for more than seven years. For more information about Wang, visit www.stanleywang4frisco.org.

Other candidates who have filed for Place 1 include Brandon Burden, John Keating, Stacy Plummer, John Redmond, Dan Stricklin, Hal Thomas, Damon Vinci and K.D. Warach.
