The Williamson County Commissioners Court met Tuesday, Nov. 29. Here is what you need to know:
FLSA overtime rule changes
Discussion between the court and the county's human resource department over the Department of Labor’s updated Fair Labor Standards Act overtime rule, which was set to go into effect Dec. 1, were put on hold due to a Texas judge's injunction of the legislation.
The changes would have affected the salary threshold for workers who are exempt from receiving overtime pay. Full-time, salaried workers making $23,660 or more per year do not currently qualify for overtime pay.
On Dec. 1 that salary level would have increased to $47,476 or more per year or $913 per week, forcing many businesses to re-examine their payroll.
Senior Director of Human Resources, Tara Raymore, said her department had delayed making any changes because of pending lawsuits and that 14 positions would be impacted if the changes were made.
Raymore and County Judge Dan Gattis agreed to wait to make any recommendations for changes until the legislation is finalized.
Expo Center updates
The commissioners signed off on $1 million worth of updates, including recreational vehicle sites, walking trails and other related infrastructure, to the newly expanded Williamson County Expo Center. Half of the money will come from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission Grant and the rest will be made up from the county's 2013 park bond.
