Members of stakeholder committee for Frisco ISD’s priorities-based budget development met for the third time Tuesday evening. The committee, which is made up of community members and FISD staff, has been meeting since the end of October. The stakeholder committee, along with the steering committee and working group made up of district officials, are helping FISD create a balanced budget for the 2017-18 school year. During Tuesday’s meeting committee members compared FISD expenditures by function to similar school districts. Members also reflected on and discussed certain possibilities, such as moving away from the small schools model, providing more support to certain departments and infrastructure of schools. The goal is to come up with a list of priorities the district administration should focus on when developing next year’s budget. “We want to hand out a budget that reflects our best thinking as a group with the resources we have and we want to do work that not only impacts this balanced budget but impacts future balanced budgets as well,” FISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said. The stakeholder committee is expected to make campus visits in December as well as meet with district leaders. The committee will meet once again for another budget workshop in February.
