The $839,000 project also includes left-turn lanes and will be complete in early 2017. TxDOT is funding the project with a donation from Apple.
Other area projects
- TxDOT also plans to resurface Parmer Lane from the Williamson County line north of McNeil Drive to the I-35 southbound frontage road. TxDOT plans to bid the project in March. Construction is expected to begin on the $2.8 million project by next summer.
- Today city staffers began work on $647,000 worth of safety improvements at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Rundberg Lane in North Austin. The improvements are part of a program that Austin City Council approved as part of its Vision Zero Action Plan, which aims to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries from vehicle collisions. The city plans to spend $1.9 million on improvements at four intersections: Lamar and Rundberg, Lamar and Parmer, I-35 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and Cameron Road and US 183.
- The city began the Waters Park Relief Main project to install a larger-capacity wastewater system near Balcones District Park in November. The project is being done in coordination with completing the North Walnut Creek Trail from the park to the MoPac trail. Updated trail plans will be submitted in January. The $5.5 million project is being funded by Austin Water and will be complete in mid-2018.
- By the end of 2016 the city of Austin will begin a four-month project to improve sidewalks on Jollyville Road between Duval Road and Balcones Woods Drive. The $330,000 project will include new sidewalk construction and retrofitting existing sidewalks and ramps to bring them into compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Some drainage work is dependent on weather, but the city expects to finish the sidewalk improvements in the spring.
