Final results show Phil Stephenson has reclaimed the Rep. District 85 seat over John Davis, according to the Texas Secretary of State's office and the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration office.
With all 103 precincts reporting, Stephenson, R-Wharton, received 35,578 votes, or 60.4 percent of the electorate, while Davis received 23,317 votes, or 39.6 percent of the electorate, according to the Secretary of State's office. Stephenson received 53 percent of the Fort Bend County vote while Davis received 47 percent of the county vote.
Matt Minor, spokesperson for Stephenson, said the representative is looking forward to potentially pushing legislation to reform the state's pensions system and property tax appraisal system.
"It's an honor for him to have the opportunity ... to continue the work he's been doing in the House," Minor said Wednesday.
Davis, a Democrat from Richmond, said he would continue advocacy work and continue promoting voter registration.
"I honestly felt like I did the best that I could have done," he said. "I am more motivated than ever because regardless of who was president there was still work that was going to be done."

Unofficial results keep Phil Stephenson ahead in the race for Rep. District 85 against John Davis.
With 26 of 27 precincts reporting, Stephenson has 19,572 votes, or 53.5 percent of the electorate, versus Davis who has 17,042 votes, or 46.6 percent of the electorate, according to the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration office.
The Secretary of State's website cited all 10 Jackson County precincts reporting with 4,165 votes for Stephenson and 895 votes for Davis. One of nine precincts in Wharton County also showed Stephenson had 10,537 votes while Davis had 3,883 votes, according to the Secretary of State's office.
The state and Fort Bend County election websites reported different precinct numbers but equal numbers of votes per candidate.
All results are unofficial until canvassed.
Stephenson leading Davis in state District 85 race in early voting

Republican incumbent Phil Stephenson takes the lead in the race for state Rep. District 85 against Democratic challenger John Davis, according to unofficial early voting results from the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration office.
Stephenson received 16,287 votes, or 54.1 percent of the electorate, while Davis has 13,833 votes, or 45.93 percent of the electorate, according to the county. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
Stephenson, of Wharton, was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in November 2012 and has served on the House Investments and Financial Services, and Pensions committees. He is a certified public accountant and a Wharton County Junior College board member.

Davis, of Richmond, is a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. He is president-elect of the Texas Youth & College Division of the NAACP, president and charter member of the Stephen F. Austin National Association of Black Accountants and president of the Stephen F. Austin National Association of Black Journalists.
District 85 encompasses parts of Richmond, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Missouri City and unincorporated areas of Fort Bend County.
