The city of Frisco will hold a special election to fill the Place 1 Frisco City Council seat, currently held by Bob Allen. The election is being called after Allen announced his run for Frisco mayor Oct. 27, effectively vacating his seat. Allen will stay on Council until someone is elected to take the Place 1 seat. According to the city charter, an elected official vacates his or her seat when the official files an application to have his or her name placed on a ballot for an elective office other than the one he or she currently holds. A vacancy on City Council will be filled by a special election that will be held 120 days after the vacancy occurs. In this case, an election must be held by Feb. 24, 2017. Council is expected to call the special election during its next meeting this month.
