City Council discussed ways for the city to promote its Purple Heart City designation during its Aug. 9 workshop session.

The council approved the designation in 2013, becoming the first city in Texas to do so, said Jack Daly, assistant to the city manager.

Daly said the city could work with nonprofits to create a Purple Heart event. The city could also add signs and banners throughout town as well as place a plaque at VFW Park, which is undergoing renovations that are expected to be completed in spring 2017, and consider rededicating the park.

Other options could include adding language about the designation on the city’s monument-style signs that are located at gateways to the city, including near Southwestern University along Hwy. 29 and on I-35.
