Elevate bar + table, 407 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos, opened Aug. 2. The bar and restaurant aims to be the next go-to spot for young professionals and the over-30 San Marcos crowd, Owner Cody Couch said.
Couch, who also operates Cody's Bistro & Lounge, wanted to provide San Marcos with a modern, elegant place to enjoy fresh drinks and bar food, he said.
The cocktails at Elevate are made with fresh purees, juices and house syrups, Couch said. Happy hour is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 12-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Additional drink specials are also offered throughout the week, such as "Tuesday TNT," during which two tacos and a margarita can be purchased for $10.
“[Elevate is] a bar first, but my food is big-city tapas style,” Couch said.
Elevate’s everyday menu includes cheese and charcuterie, tartare and smoked salmon. Elevate also offers $15 all-you-can-eat brunch with a rotating menu.
Restaurant Manager Matt Johnson told
Community Impact Newspaper in February that Elevate's bar would target a demographic older than the Square crowd.
“We’re really going after sex appeal with the furniture and the décor,” Johnson said. “We’re really looking to market this to the 30-plus side of town.”

Owner Ciro Coppola purchased The Den at 700 N. LBJ Ste. 113, San Marcos, and revamped the space, gutting it from ceiling to floor. Now, he will open the
The Pitch, a rugby-themed bar with craft cocktails and beers, on Aug. 24.
Named after the term soccer and rugby fans use to describe the sports' playing field, General Manager Madison Hudeck said the bar hopes to reach out to the large rugby followings she said exist in San Marcos, Austin and San Antonio.
“We’re trying to focus on the international sports,” Hudeck said. “There’s not a place in town where soccer, rugby and tennis fans can watch their games.”
The bar will hold seven televisions, she said, including one with an 11 ft. screen.
“It’s going to be a place where people can come and have a conversation and not have the music drown you out,” Hudeck said.
The Pitch will hold a grand opening Aug. 26 with live music beginning at 7 p.m. Regular hours will be from 2 p.m.-2 a.m., Mon.-Sat. and 12 p.m.-2 a.m. Sun.

The Bloom Bar, at 123 S. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, will hold a grand opening Aug. 25 and offer floral arrangements and workshops out of a space in downtown San Marcos.
Owner Kayli Head has worked in the florals industry for 16 years.
“[Floral design] has always been a love of mine,” Head said. “I fell in love with San Marcos and its vibe and the culture here, especially downtown. Opening a business here is a dream come true. I’m loving every minute of it.”
Head specializes in Austin-area and Hill Country weddings, and also offers florals for corporate events. She said she hopes to branch out and become a retail florist offering delivery services. Head said she also enjoys teaching floral design workshops to create arrangements and flower crowns.
“If I can teach someone and spark that interest in them, I love to do that,” she said. “I love to share the art of design. It’s a real joy for me, and really rewarding.”
The Bloom is open by appointment only.
