As of Aug. 1, Amy Brown, Georgetown Partners in Education executive director, will join Georgetown ISD as the community engagement specialist for the district. The PIE board of directors will also serve as advisers to the district and will provide advice, feedback and recommendations to the district, according to a news release from the district. “Working as one, we can more effectively and efficiently direct community resources to identified needs within our school district, host volunteers in our classrooms and design high-quality educational experiences that are aligned to our new curriculum,” Superintendent Fred Brent said in a statement. PIE, which started in 1994, works to strengthen district partnerships and community engagement programs. One of PIE's goals is to connect parents, citizens, nonprofits and businesses with the district, according to the news release. Since it was founded, PIE piloted several programs, including extended school enrichment, Helping Hands Tutoring and mentoring. Brown said that connecting PIE with GISD will allow for more opportunities for community engagement. “I am thrilled to continue PIE’s legacy of connecting Georgetown’s community and schools, while expanding the work to include greater collaboration with area partners, mentors and volunteers who share their time and talent with the thousands of wonderful students in our district,” Brown said.
