Michelle Schreiber had always envisioned a place where people undergoing cancer treatments had a place to heal their minds and bodies and keep their immune systems strong.

In February she and co-owner Sadie Minkoff opened The Cancer Wellness Center at 3921 Steck Ave., Ste. A100, Austin, the same location as their other business, Sage Acupuncture, which focuses on fertility treatment and women’s health.

TCWC offers acupuncture, oncology massage, manual lymphatic drainage, cancer coaching, meditation instruction, herbal medicine and reiki. Reiki is a healing method in which the practitioner draws energy throughout a person without physically touching the patient. Schreiber said oncology massage therapists are trained to know what not to do or how to modify a massage for a patient with a current or previous cancer diagnosis. Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle technique to drain the lymph nodes.

“We’ve improved their quality of life and have given them hope to have some sort of support to their bodies and minds in addition to their Western medical treatment,” Schreiber said.
