AUSTIN–Austin City Council District 8, which is located in Southwest Austin and includes Oak Hill neighborhoods, will receive a beautification project for a local park after winning the Austin Recycles Games, as announced at an Earth Day event April 23.
The city of Austin introduced the games in late 2015 to increase recycling rates by pitting residents in different City Council districts against one another to see which district can recycle the most, Austin Resource Recovery spokesperson Memi Cardenas said. District 8 won in the most overall recycling contest category.
District 8 Council Member Ellen Troxclair said she was impressed by her constituents’ participation.
“I’m sure people are going to be excited to have the money spent in the district and see the improvements,” she said.
Troxclair said she is considering plans for a beautification project in Circle C Metropolitan Park, adding specific plans have not been finalized.
