This week, NorthGate Constructors will open the new, lowered main lanes of northbound FM 2499, one of the last major milestones before completion.
In January, the project opened new southbound FM 2499 main lanes, allowing commuters to bypass traffic signals at Grapevine Mills Boulevard and Stars and Stripes Way. On March 23 the remaining main lanes will open, improving the commute for drivers traveling from SH 121 toward Denton County.
To allow for this traffic pattern change, the following closures will be needed:
- From 8 p.m. March 22 to 6 a.m. March 23, the current northbound FM 2499 lanes (future frontage road) will be fully closed to allow for the opening of the new main lanes. Click here for a detour map.
- At 6 a.m. on March 23, the new, lowered northbound FM 2499 main lanes will open to traffic. Existing northbound FM 2499 lanes will become the frontage road for local and business traffic. Click here to see the new traffic pattern.
- From 8 p.m. March 23 to 6 a.m. on March 24, the northbound FM 2499 frontage road at Grapevine Mills Boulevard will be closed to complete the traffic pattern change. Traffic will be encouraged to use the new northbound FM 2499 main lanes.
After the northbound lanes open, crews will continue to construct the southbound FM 2499 frontage road and west intersections of Grapevine Mills Boulevard and Stars and Stripes Way. The project anticipates that all lanes of traffic will be open and in their final pattern this summer, approximately six months ahead of schedule.
