PetSmart Charities donated a $6,600 grant to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter that is meant to help enhance the shelter’s off-site adoption program. The Williamson County Commissioners approved the grant during a Feb. 9 court meeting.
The grant provides funds for a 12-month period and can only be used by the county to increase the number of dog adoptions off site. The regional animal shelter offers adoptions at the PetSmart store in the Wolf Ranch Town Center on Thursdays through Sundays, Animal Services Director Cheryl Schneider said.
The grant also includes $2,750 for a vehicle wrap graphic for one of the shelter vans; $1,000 for social media efforts; $1,290 for equipment such as exercise pens, tents, fans and cooling pads to allow for outdoor set-ups on more days per year; and $1,560 for technology to streamline the off-site adoption process with a tablet, hotspot wireless access and a wireless printer.
“It gives us more visibility, [and] the computer would allow real-time adoptions,” Schneider said. “It enhances everything that we do out there.”
By the end of the 12-month grant period, the project goal is to increase off-site adoptions by about 100 pets compared to the previous 12-month period.
